MANLY MAKEOVERS
by Davida "The Clipper Cut Queen" Leary

Once again the Barbershop is flying high. Having been a Professional Cosmetologist for over 15 years, I have experienced the rise and fall of the Barbershop. Now the Barbershop is on the rise again and in full swing. Thanks to the growing culture of Men Europe have categorized as the Metrosexual Man. No longer is the Barbershop being visited for basic clipper cuts and shaves. Men are getting Precision Clipper Cuts, Advanced Outline Detailing, Shampoos, Conditioners, Twists, Locs, Braids, Texturizers and sometimes Press and Curls, can you say "Snoop Dog." And all of this is achieved while still maintaining their masculinity.

As a woman and a Men's Grooming Specialist, I find it quite refreshing to see so many men concerned about their appearance. Most of these men are Corporate Professionals who have to be well groomed at all times. However, this trend is growing rapidly amongst Blue Collar Professionals as well. I have countless auto mechanics and contractors, just to name a few who visit me regularly for Manly Makeovers. You may be wondering, what is a Manly Makeover? Well, a Manly Makeover is when a gentleman comes into the shop and requests a Deluxe Grooming Service. This service consists of a Shampoo, Condition, Scalp Massage, Blow Dry, Precision Cut and Outline Detailing. Sometimes the client may prefer a complete transformation such as a Deep Coloring, Texturizer or any other style completely different from what they have been wearing. Each client has special grooming needs that must be met individually.

As Men's Grooming Professionals, we must continue to educate ourselves on growing style trends, product knowledge and hair care theory. It is important to attend hair shows and seminars. Read hair and beauty culture books and magazines. This gives us an edge over the bootleg, basement barber. Anyone can "Cut Hair," but it takes Education, Knowledge and Care to be a true Professional Men's Grooming Specialist and provide a real Manly Makeover.

MEN'S GROOMING

How to Maintain Your Style at Home.
By Davida"The Clipper Cut Queen" Leary

Most of my clientel are professional men. Some are blue collar professional others are corporate professionals. But they all have one thing in common; they want to look well kept at all times. Today's man wants to look good. If he's an auto mechanic, roofer or a Wall Street stock broker.

Here are a few tips.

How often to get a hair cut?
The average time span for a man to return to the salon or barbershop for a hair cut is 1 to 2 weeks. Depending on fast your hair grows back it could be more or less time.

How to Maintain your style between haircuts?Every man should have these few items at home:
1. Medium bristle brush
2. Styling gel or pomade
3. Styling comb
4. Personal Shaver

If you wear a short hair cut, then you need a brush and styling pomade for control. For medium to longer styles, use your styling comb and styling gel to groom and shape your hair. And of course the personal shaver is used to keep the clean shaven look or just to clean up the stubble growing around the beard.
